Book Title: Indigo Blue

Author: Cathy Cassidy

Summary: Indigo is a girl whose mother loves blue. Once, a priest told her mother that blue is her lucky colour. But, the colour does not seem to bring her luck, as she divorced her husband after giving birth to Indigo. Later, Indigo's mother married Max, a funny and caring person who cares a lot for them. Thus, Indigo's sister, Misti, was born. However, Max's temper changed for the worse when her mother started becoming clumsier and absent-minded. One day, after a row, Indigo's mother could not stand it anymore and decided to leave him. She brought Indigo and Misti along with her, renting a dark, dirty and cold room in an old Victorian house owned by a grumpy old landlady. In school, things are not much better as Jo, her best friend, called it quits with her when she found out that the guy she liked do not like her but Indigo instead. Jo thinks that Indigo is trying to steal Shane from her, but in actual fact, she is unable to accept the fact that he does not like her, even when it is staring at her straight in the face. And to add to the already big problem, there is Aisha. Aisha is a girl who wants to befriend them, but is misunderstood by Indigo. Indigo thinks that Aisha is trying to take Jo away from her. On the road of hardship, Indigo clears many misunderstandings and make many discoveries. But the biggest discovery is the real reason behind Indigo's mother running away from Max. In the end, she finds another best friend and it is also the beginning of love.

My reflections: I think that 'Indigo Blue' is a great book. Through this book, I realised that it is easy to gain friends and also, to lose them. Friends should stick together through thick and thin, and not let any misunderstandings get the upperhand. Love included. I also found out that people are not what they seem, that they might be wolf in sheep's skin or a real softie at heart. My advice to all readers is that if they find this book or any other books written by cathy cassidy, they SHOULD take it and start reading.

Title : Scatterheart

Author : Lili Wilkinson

Summary : This book is about a girl, Hannah Cheshire, being thrown into prison for a crime she had not committed. Later, she found out that she was thrown into prison because of her father. Hannah and her father, Aurthur Cheshire, were people of 'Quality'.People of Quality are the "upper-class" or rather, people of authority. People of Quality lived in the lap of luxury, rich beings. However, Aurthur Cheshire gambled away his wife's fortune, living on credit for many years. One day, he packed up and fled the country, abandoning his daughter, leaving her to settle his debts. Thus, Hannah became a pauper, a convict who has to carry the heavy burden of her father. Through this, Hannah learnt the true meaning of friendship, the loss of loved ones and in the end, finding her one true love

My Reflections : I think that this book is a really, really good book. Lili Wilkinson had expressed the emotions of the characters so well that I could feel their emotions too. It was as if I had been sucked into the story and became one with the characters. In the beginning, I was quite reluctant to read the book, for what reason i do not now. But, as the due date was nearing, I decided to give it a try. I am glad I had done so as it was really nice. i could not tear myself away from the book. I would recommend this book to people of ages twelve and above.

Hmmm... ... What i think of the e-learning carnival... Well,I think that E-learning day is GREAT!(except that there is A LOT of homework)Why I say that there is a lot of homework? that's because on normal days, there might not be as much homework than today as there is not all subjects on that particular day, thus there is no homework on some subjects. But on E-learning day, there is homework on ALL of the subjects. Anyway,i still can't believe that i really switched on my computer for such a LONG time!( i seldom do that.)Erm... i think that it is all i have to say about the E-learning day. There is one more ting i have to say about E-learning day, and that is that i hope thare would be more of this activities and that i actually kind of enjoyed this day.

The Holiday Ends... ...
Tuesday, June 19, 2007

The time passes so quickly that the holiday is ending already.I can't imagine that the holidays are over so quickly! But,i spent around a quarter of my time in school!I had to go back to school for so many times! For cca, ssp, chinese oral... ... there was a week that i had to go back everyday except for a day!Okay, okay.I'll talk about my holiday.Hey! Wait a minute! I AM talking about my holidays! Whatever.sorry.sorry. I got distracted. My apologies. Okay, let me start. Well, what can i say? Hmmm...let me see...We had a lot of projects, so our group decided to go to someone's house to do the 3 projects.what projects you might ask me. Well, they are:a sculpture made out of recycled materials,a CE project on the service learning day and the recycling events happening in Zhss. We spent 3 days doing the robot(the sculpture that we decided to do) as we did it once, then we decided to take it apart.(that was done on the second day.luckily, the robot was half done.)On the second day, we did another robot, this time, we almost finished it,except for the legs and hands.then we wrapped the robot in plastic foil.sadly, on the third day, we decided to take the robot apart yet AGAIN,as the exceeded the limit(length and width).then we did it again, this time making sure that the robot was in the limit.this time,we finished it.PHEW! that was a lot of time taken up right? then the rest of the week passed with ssp and all that. The second week was the week that I mentioned earlier with many days of going back to school.Well, the third week passed with nothing really interesting happening except for a day when i went out shopping with my primary school friend. We went to Novena Square,United Square and lastly Junction 8.That was so fun!For the last week, which is this week, i had to finish up my all my homework before the school reopens. That was pretty much of how I spent my holidays this June.Another thing is that we(me and my family)went out pretty much.Thats all then.

Book Title:The City of Ember
Author:Jeanne DuPrau

Book Review:
This book is about two children,a boy and a girl, living in the city of Ember. The girl and the boy are Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow respectively.Lina wants to be a messenger as she loves running and messengers spend their time running from one place to another, delivering messages.Doon wants to be a Pipeworks laborer as that is where the generator is, the generator that keeps the lights going in Ember.Doon has some ideas about how to fix the generator as the lights are beginning to flicker and blackouts are beginning to occur. As the people of Ember have no free will to choose their jobs, they will get a job by drawing out pieces of paper with the jobs on it.No one knows what job they will get,so they will have to depend on luck to get their dream jobs. Sadly,Lina draws out the dreaded job of Pipeworks laborer, while Doon draws the job of a messenger. They offered to switch jobs when they found out that they had the job that the other party wanted. The highlight of the story is when Lina found a letter, which, unfortunately was chewed into pieces by her baby sister, and decided to enlist the help of Doon to find out the contents of the letter. While trying to find out the contents of the letter, they uncover some secrets, selfish acts that are meant not to be found out... ...

My reflections:
I feel that this is a very nice and interesting book.It is filled with suspense and cliff-hangers.I was not able to tear my eyes away from the book as I wanted to know what would happen next.I was so fustrated when I found out that there was a second book, that I did not find it and that they did not give the book title.I would recommend this book as Jeanne writes it in a way that enables the readers to feel as if they are really in the story and can really experience what the charaters were experiencing at that time.I would recommend this book to students,as it is quite a good book.
